Environmental Responsibility |
| | In 2004 we applied for our ISO 14001 certificate. This certification requires reaching a series of international standards on environmental management, covering aspects which a company can be expected to control or influence. Going for ISO certification sent a clear message to every person in our organisation that we were serious and that they had a part to play. Achieving certification was a real milestone in WDF's development. ISO 14001 has given us a framework and criteria to drive and measure our efforts towards managing environmental impacts and risks, making a real difference in our approach to consumption, waste and recycling both on airport and off airport through our distribution and in our offices.
|
| | In the past three years we've reduced energy consumption in all our shops by around 17%. Off-airport, at our central distribution centre, 100% of our energy is generated from renewable resources.
We recycle 97% of our waste - cardboard, shrink wrap, plastic and metal. Our aim is zero waste landfill by 2010.
To cut CO2 emissions, we have specified environmentally friendly Euro V engines for all replacement vehicles in our commercial fleet.
Our standard carrier bags now contain 80% recycled plastics and consumer usage has been reduced by 15% simply by asking customers if they require a bag. Our stores also offer customers a jute bag alternative.
At WDF we take corporate social responsibility very seriously, reviewing our impact on the environment on a continual basis.
